The Nike Golf Shoe company doesn't have the long history that some of the other golf shoe companies have such as FootJoy or Adidas. But what it lacks in historical roots it has achieved in entrepreneurial growth. Founded by Phil Knight in the early 60s, the roots of the company came from a class project while Knight was getting his MBA at Stanford University.
The focus on athletic shoes started in his undergraduate days running Track at the University of Oregon where he developed a close association with Bill Bowerman his Track Coach. Bowerman was constantly looking for a better quality running shoe for his athletes. This idea emerged with entrepreneurial strategies from a Stanford MBA Class and included the notion that high quality, inexpensive athletic shoes could be produced in Japan.
While visiting Japan in 1963, Phil represented himself to Japanese athletic shoe manufacturer “Tiger” as an American athletic shoe distributor interested in selling Tiger shoes to American runners. On a whim during the visit he called his company Blue Ribbon Sports, and the rest as they say is history. Blue Ribbon Sports, founded by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman became Nike, Inc. in 1971.
Key milestones that drove Nike’s incredible growth include:
- Becoming a shoe distributor for Onitsuka Tiger of Japan
- Deriving a new company name from the Greek Goddes of victory ... NIKE
- Deriving the Nike "Swoosh" logo, designed by a graphic arts student at Portland State University
- Developing the "Just Do It" corporate slogan
- Signing Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods to mega endorsement deals
The above actions have made Nike one of the world's most recognizable brands. Tiger pretty much put Nike Golf Shoes on the map, but recently his body and his game have been slipping a bit. So what has Nike done? They’ve signed Rory McIlroy to carry the torch, and this includes Nike Spikeless Golf Shoes Men. Rory is a young Irish golfer who has been in the PGA Top 10 rankings since 2009, achieving #1 ranking in 2012 and 2014. This is a Product Review of the Nike Lunar Waverly Golf Shoes.
A Casual Golf Shoe With Traditional Nike Styling
This is a casual golf shoe designed to be worn on all surfaces found at the golf course. Eliminates the need to bring 2 pairs of shoes. Put these shoes on at home and your good to go, even if you need to make a few stops coming back from the course. No more hassle of going to the car to change shoes before going to the clubhouse after a round of golf.
Nike Lunarlon Technology for Comfort and Fit
The cork inner sole is an ingenious idea from Nike Technology providing great support and sense of stability while maintaining the innersole shape and fit. Customer Remarks and Rating
“Not your typical golf spikes. The soles on these shoes are more studded than spiked. They do however look and feel great while giving plenty of grip on the course. Definitely a solid choice for someone looking for a more sporty look while hitting the links.”
“ Super comfortable and good grip. Best spikeless golf shoe … well made, perfect fit, very comfortable, good support, holds to the ground.”
“By far the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn on a golf course. Great grip on the turf. They clean up very easily after a round. Very durable. I like these so much I bought another pair in a different color.”
“These are as comfortable as any piece of footwear I have ever worn. The first time I put them on they fit like I had been breaking them in for 6 months. They are a bit thicker in the sole than free trainers, but still offer the great range of motion I love. Traction is outstanding, and the wider toe box allows you foot to roll with your swing, but not to the point of losing grip. So far they are very easy to clean.”

A few customer comments indicated a fit problem, caused in my opinion by the wrong size being ordered. This is easily avoided by following this simple procedure ... How To Determine Shoe Size. Some golf shoe brands do not offer a full range of shoe widths online. The width size that comes out of the chart above varies with the length measurement of the foot, yielding increasing widths with increasing length. A limited width selection can usually be compensated for by selecting a longer shoe length. But this has limitations, so if you have extremely narrow or extremely wide feet it is often wiser to chose a style or brand that includes a broader width selection.
There were a surprisingly small number of customer reviews available. I believe this is the result of Nike’s broad selection of different spikeless golf shoe models creating a wide customer base. The Nike Lunar Waverly Spikeless Golf Shoe carries on the Nike tradition of high quality footwear. This shoe will not let you down.
